The expansive
front porch with its period
style railings greets you as you stroll up the antique pavers lined
with monkey grass. The lush landscaping boasts crepe myrtles, mature
shrubs, a fruit bearing pear tree, a showy magnolia, azaleas, a
secret garden tucked of the side of the porch and a tropical
showing of canna lilies.
The backyard
is enclosed with privacy fencing and a back porch and rear balcony
provides additional outdoor living and entertaining space.

As you stand
on the front porch, you are faced with a gorgeous arts
& crafts front door faceted with multiple beveled glass
panes, sidelights, a large transom, and ornate brass
door hardware. As you step inside the entry foyer , you'll experience
the rich woodwork of judges paneling, capped off with plate rack,
sculpted brackets and ornate molding. The foyer woodwork is a combination
of salvaged heart pine panels, antique newel post and handrail,
and new custom carpentry, stained to match the old wood. The balusters
feature perfectly inlaid maple diamonds. The inglenook
is modeled after typical Craftsman built ins and again features
the maple diamond and a hinged top that serves as both a seat and
an access to storage. There is a beautiful stained
glass window in the stairwell.

Move further
inside and a large living
room opens up in front of you. You'll notice the original arts
& crafts columns with their built in bookcases-these bookcases
are featured on both sides of the living room. The original heart
pine floors shine with warmth and are refinished throughout the
house. The huge windows are original--four lights over one. The
living room features the first of four early 1900's period fireplaces-this
one has vent-free gas logs for chilly Atlanta nights. The mantel
is solid tiger oak and is tiled with green marble, custom cut to
mimic the look and feel of the period tile.

adorned with four large windows, making it a sunny spot for entertaining.

This kitchen
is the heart and soul of this Craftsman jewel. The owners, who love
to cook, spent countless hours designing the perfect spot for preparing
wonderful meals and entertaining. The cabinets are custom designed
natural mission cherry, warmed to a reddish glow. The counters and
farmhouse
sink (weighing over 250 lbs.) are both Brazilian soapstone,
which is an inert designer material. It is very dense and can withstand
any chemicals and heat. In fact, it's perfectly acceptable to set
hot pots on the counters. The built-in
furniture piece of the cabinetry is also cherry and boasts a
wine rack, antique wavy glass doors, mission
hardware, and white marble counters from Elberton, GA-the same
material used in Georgia kitchens 100 years ago. The appliances
are stainless steel, including the dishwasher, gas stove, and microwave.
The floors are Indian slate.
The kitchen
ceiling is pressed
tin from the 1850s. The owners bought the tin from different
parts of the country-the field pattern is from an old abbey in Chicago,
while the joker faced crown molding is from an old well-known bar
in Canada.

Nothing
in this house has been overlooked and the bathrooms are no exception.
The downstairs bath has that old world feel, with beaded board, clawfooted
tub and chrome shower faucet. The floor is black and white marble
mosaic tile, the sink
an 1890's white Carrera marble with restored brass century-old faucets.
There is a large laundry room/utility closet off the back hall, across
from the downstairs bath.
The upstairs
bath is a reinterpretation of the Craftsman philosophy--bringing
the outdoors in. The shower surround is slate pieces cut into octagons
and accented with rose tumbled marble diamonds-the desired affect:
a deep woods creek bed. The upstairs sink is again a white Carrera
marble that hails from the late 1800s. The upstairs medicine cabinet
is an antique heart of pine piece handcrafted of beaded board.

The master
bedroom, like many of the rooms in this house has been adorned
with custom paint colors-in this case, a dusky purple. This large
room features a jewel-like stained
glass window that hearkens from the late 1800s. Awaking in the
morning to the sun filtering through this window is truly refreshing.
The master also features a beautiful heart
pine mantel with a beveled inset mirror. Also, something rare
in an old house: double closets. All the doors in this house are
heart pine six-paneled
doors and all of them have been stripped of their previous paint
and refinished.

The other three
bedrooms of the house are also large and well-lit. The blue
bedroom is located on the South side of the house and is a soothing
room to rest or relax in. The red
bedroom peeks out from under the protective canopy of hardwood
trees and is one of the largest rooms upstairs. It features a rare,
beautiful oak piano
mantel. The fourth bedroom is currently being renovated.

One of the benefits
of this home is that private fenced large backyard.
The backyard features a glorious blooming pink cherry tree, two
fragrant cedar trees, a ruby red Japanese maple, and a host of hardwood
trees. With all of the birds and towering trees, oftentimes you
feel as if you're living in the country.
