front of house
When we purchased this Craftsman bungalow, there were well over 30 folks living in it and it was a one bedroom/one bathroom. We redesigned the entire flow of the house and added on a large addition and turned it into a master suite. The kitchen was reconfigured for maximum usage. The end result was an open airy two bedroom/two bathroom with a large kitchen, a mudroom, and a long center hallway. The buyer choose a wonderful spicy interior color scheme that unified the house with warm hues, neutrals, and some complementary cool colors as well. Most of the lighting fixtures in the house are turn-of-the-century brass pan fixtures, some with period shades.

As you step onto the front porch, you’ll notice the heirloom yellow rosebush and the lovely sloping front yard. The home has a nice view up on the hill of the surrounding homes and this quiet dead-end street. The landscaped yard was tilled and sodded with zoysia grass, which is very soft underfoot.

The porch of this house was completely restored, beginning with the removal of the old dirty screening and the replacement of the missing woodwork. In addition, we replaced the hollow core door with a vintage Craftsman heart of pine door with the decorate mission ledge.

The kitchen of this house has been reconfigured for flow and ease of use. The charming original cast iron sink with drain board has been reglazed and set into dark green granite counters. New maple mission cabinets, stainless steel dishwasher, gas stove, and vent hood all combine for a timeless appeal. A reproduction mission style stained glass chandelier holds center stage over the room.

This spacious long hallway is a room in its own right. Airy and light filled, it lends privacy to the master suite and nicely separates the private bedrooms from the public spaces. Handcrafted reproduction solid brass sconces adorn and add historic flair to the hall.
The spacious master bedroom retains the same Craftsman character as the rest of the house since we recycled the original windows from the back of the house, when adding the addition. The disadvantage of using the original windows was that all of the walls needed to be built out to fit the newly installed sheetrock. Antique doors and antique hardware were also added to the addition for a seamless look. A Craftsman ceiling fan and double French doors to the deck, and large trim tie the house into the existing structure. An enormous walk-in closet is also a part of the master bedroom.

This large bath, part of new addition, was created with luxury in mind. White Carrera marble, double shower heads, glass shower door, beaded board and chair rail, and a pedestal sink all exclude comfort and space. An antique pine transom with diamond mullions cast shadows across the marble. Yet the window is set high on the wall for total privacy.

The guest bedroom is painted a lovely Williamsburg blue color that is centrally located off the center hallway. It features an antique chandelier and brick fireplace.

The main bathroom is tiled in crisp black and white checkerboard and features a vintage cast iron tub, antique medicine cabinet, original wall mount sink, and reproduction faucets.

Mudrooms will never go out of style. This one is ideally situated in the rear of the house and is the perfect nook for laundry facilities, a slop sink and an entryway for dogs or little muddy feet. The original floors in this room finished out into lovely white knotty pine.

The Zen deck (left) on this house is ideal for entertaining. It is just two steps above the deep backyard, which is privacy fenced and features an original garage. The garage was completely restored with the added benefit of electricity and an architectural shingled roof so that it will last another 100 years. There is also a driveway leading into the backyard.
